Tennis star takes to the Yarra
World number five David Ferrer swapped his tennis racquet for rowing oars yesterday in a special promotion organised by Rowing Victoria and the Australian Open which saw the quarter-finalist jump in a boat with Australian women’s team captain Sarah Tait.
The Boathouse Drive boat sheds are just a stone’s throw from Melbourne Park and dual Olympic rower Tait set about trying to teach the Spaniard the finer points about rowing.

Tait said it was a new and enjoyable experience.
“It was a great experience to get David out there in a boat and it would have been nicer to have him out there a bit longer teaching him more about rowing,” Tait said.
“He got the hang of rowing well on one side really well, so maybe he is a sweep rower!
“It was a really unique experience to row with David and was definitely worth it.”
Channel 7 shot vision of the pair rowing and will air the footage later this afternoon and this evening ahead of Ferrer’s clash with world number one Novak Djokovic.
